Surprise, Historic schooner in Camden, United States.
The Surprise spans 44 feet in length with a 12-foot beam, featuring oak and locust framing complemented by yellow pine and mahogany planking.
Naval architect Thomas F McManus designed this racing schooner in 1917 for M.S. Kattenhorn, a merchandise broker from New Rochelle, New York.
The vessel maintains four traditional sails: main, staysails, and club sails, representing the classic design of early 20th-century American sailing craft.
From mid-May to mid-October, the schooner offers daily two-hour sailing excursions in Penobscot Bay, departing from 1 Bay View Street.
The deck structure incorporates fir wood construction and includes a dedicated motor chamber in the rear section for modern navigation requirements.
