Capitol Park, Public park in Capitol Complex, Augusta, United States.
Capitol Park spans 34 acres of landscaped grounds with walking paths, gardens, and open spaces adjacent to the Maine State House.
The park, established in 1827, served as a parade ground and encampment site during the American Civil War before its redesign in the 1920s.
The Olmsted Brothers created a formal layout incorporating wide gravel paths, gathering spaces, and areas designated for public speaking and performances.
Visitors can access the park from Capitol Street, State Street, and Union Street, with numerous benches and shaded areas throughout the grounds.
The park represents Maine's earliest documented designed landscape, featuring a formal allée of trees leading to the State House entrance.
