Sand Bar State Park, State park on Lake Champlain in Milton, United States
Sand Bar State Park is a recreation area featuring a long sandy beach along the eastern shore of Lake Champlain near Burlington. The grounds include swimming zones, a boat rental service, picnic areas with grills, courts for volleyball and horseshoes, and walking paths.
The park was developed in the 1930s when the Civilian Conservation Corps built a stone bathhouse and converted the original swamp into a recreational destination. It was among the first lands purchased under Vermont's state park program, which began in 1929.
This park has become a gathering place where locals and visitors spend summer days swimming and picnicking by the water. The sandy shores and open spaces serve as a community retreat that connects people to Lake Champlain.
The park has ample parking for day visitors and is well suited for outdoor recreation throughout the warmer months. Swimming is most comfortable from late spring through early fall, when the lake water temperature is higher.
The park sits on a natural sandbar formation that connects Milton's mainland to South Hero Island, creating a unique geographical link across the water. This sandbar shape is what made the location special for development as a public recreation area.
