Richardson's Overland Trail Ranch, Laramie, WY, listed on the NRHP in Wyoming
Richardson's Overland Trail Ranch is a historic stage station in Laramie that served as a stop for travelers in the 19th century. The roughly four-acre site includes several log buildings, including a main house built in 1862, an old barn, and several cabins.
The ranch was founded in 1862 as a stage station along the Overland Trail and served travelers as a rest stop. Starting in 1864, people began ranching the area, and the site changed hands multiple times, shifting from livestock raising to polo pony breeding to operating as a dude ranch in the 1920s.
The name reflects the historic Overland Trail that travelers crossed in the 19th century. The ranch shows how people stopped here to rest, eat meals, and change horses during their long journeys.
The site sits off the main road on Hart Road and remains quiet with few visitors. Come with plenty of time to explore the various buildings and surrounding land at your own pace.
A section of the original Overland Trail corduroy road, made of wooden logs, is still visible about 300 feet north of the site. Also, a log cabin from Fox Park was moved to the ranch in the 1930s and still stands there today.
