The Grand Theater traces its origins to the 890-seat Grand Opera House, built on the same site in 1899 and a popular venue for musical and theatrical acts. After the opera house was demolished in spring 1927, construction began on the current movie palace in the classic revival style. A $2.2 million restoration in 1987 updated technical systems, and a $13.2 million expansion in 2002 created Artsblock.
