The I.W.P. Buchanan House is a residential home in the Queen Anne style located at 428 West Main Street that displays typical features of late 19th-century architecture. It was constructed with ornate details, varied roof forms, and decorative elements characteristic of this architectural approach.

Built around 1894 for Isaac William Pleasant Buchanan, the house takes its name from him. His father, Dr. Andrew H. Buchanan, chaired the mathematics department at Cumberland University, while Isaac taught mathematics at Lincoln College in Illinois and co-founded Lebanon's Castle Heights Military Academy. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 8, 1979.

The house was designed by George Barber, a prominent Knoxville architect whose designs shaped residential construction across Tennessee. His influence on how homes looked during this period is visible in the building's distinctive details.

The house is part of the Historic Lebanon Driving Tour and can be viewed from outside. Visitors can see it while walking along West Main Street and admire its architectural details from the street.

Isaac Buchanan's father, Dr. Andrew H. Buchanan, chaired the mathematics department at Cumberland University in Lebanon, so the household's academic standing predated the house itself. Buchanan later co-founded Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon and taught mathematics there.
