Ruwayshid Air Base, Military air base in Al-Anbar Governorate, Iraq
Ruwayshid Air Base is an abandoned military airfield located in Al-Anbar Governorate in western Iraq near the Jordanian border. The facility features a main concrete runway with connected taxiways and various support structures spread across the desert landscape.
The Iraqi Air Force operated this dispersal airfield as a backup facility for H-3 Air Base, but it was captured during the 2003 Coalition invasion. The site was gradually abandoned after its military functions ceased.
The base represents one of several military installations that formed part of Iraq's western defense network during the late 20th century.
The concrete structures throughout the site show significant deterioration, with most original buildings either removed or collapsed over time. Access to the airfield today is limited and visitors should be aware of the unstable conditions.
The desert progressively reclaims the abandoned airfield, transforming the military structures into a snapshot of regional aviation history frozen in time. The runway and taxiways remain visible as reminders of past operations while sand and weathering gradually cover the surface.
