Malay College Kuala Kangsar, Prestigious boarding school in Kuala Kangsar, Malaysia.
Malay College Kuala Kangsar is a nationally protected boarding school in the town of Kuala Kangsar in Perak state. The grounds spread across wide green spaces and include several buildings from different periods, among them dormitories, classrooms, and a library.
The institution opened in early 1905 as a residential school for Malay princes and sons of high-ranking officials. After World War II, admission practices changed fundamentally and allowed students from all social backgrounds to attend.
The college carries the nickname Eton of the East and has kept its original main building in bright yellow and white. The campus sits along a riverbank and is surrounded by numerous tropical trees that provide shade and shape the grounds.
The grounds can be viewed from outside as it is an active school. Visitors should respect class times and school events and not disturb operations.
The school was the first English-language educational institution for Malays on the peninsula and introduced the boarding concept. Several former students later became heads of government or ministers of their states and shaped the political landscape of the country across generations.
