Fortune Dragon, Dragon statue in Yong Peng, Malaysia.
The Fortune Dragon is a walkable dragon sculpture in Yong Peng that extends about 107 meters long and reaches nearly 5 meters high. The exterior is clad in ceramic scales while the interior functions as a tunnel that visitors can pass through.
The sculpture was built between 2013 and 2015 as a regional landmark project that drew together craftspeople and artists. The construction process involved assembling components, some of which came from outside sources.
Inside the tunnel, traditional Chinese paintings depict stories of family loyalty and spiritual realms along the interior path. These artworks shape how visitors experience moving through the structure.
Access is through openings at the head or tail of the dragon, depending on which entrance a visitor chooses. The interior requires some physical movement while ascending and passing through, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
An elevated platform partway through the interior allows visitors to look down at the decorations and gain a different perspective on the paintings and details. This raised point provides a pause and a viewing angle that would not be possible at ground level.
