Sultan Ismail Bridge, Road bridge in Muar, Malaysia

Sultan Ismail Bridge spans the Muar River connecting Bandar Maharani with Tanjung Agas and accommodates vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians on separate pathways. The structure was built to enable traffic flow between these two parts of town while supporting different types of users.

The project began in 1965 and the bridge opened in 1967 to meet growing demand for crossing the Muar River. Later, continued traffic pressure prompted the construction of a second bridge that provided additional capacity.

Locals call the old ferry crossing "Penambang", and the bridge kept the name Sultan Ismail after the sultan who opened it on 16 April 1967. The span also marks the boundary between Muar and Tangkak districts, a line residents cross daily.

The bridge carries the road between Bandar Maharani and Tanjung Agas, with separate lanes for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians. Congestion built up from 1989, when the North–South Expressway interchanges at Tangkak and Pagoh opened, until the second bridge at Parit Bunga was opened to traffic in 2004 with the Muar Bypass. The Penambang ferry terminal stood about 1.5 km from the bridge site.

The structure received specialized steel piles that were imported specifically from Germany, indicating advanced engineering techniques for its era. This made it a technically sophisticated achievement when it was built.
