Sultan Ismail Bridge

Sultan Ismail Bridge spans the Muar River connecting Bandar Maharani with Tanjung Agas and accommodates vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians on separate pathways. The structure was built to enable traffic flow between these two parts of town while supporting different types of users.

The project began in 1965 and the bridge opened in 1967 to meet growing demand for crossing the Muar River. Later, continued traffic pressure prompted the construction of a second bridge that provided additional capacity.

The bridge serves as a gathering point for the community during celebrations and local events where residents and visitors come together. It has become a symbol connecting the two neighborhoods and represents part of how people identify with this place.

The crossing experiences heaviest traffic during morning and evening rush hours when many people commute. It is wise to avoid these times or allow extra time if traveling during these hours.

The structure received specialized steel piles that were imported specifically from Germany, indicating advanced engineering techniques for its era. This made it a technically sophisticated achievement when it was built.
