Churup, Mountain summit in Huascaran National Park, Peru.
Churup is a mountain summit reaching about 5,500 meters in the Cordillera Blanca range. The mountain is defined by glacier formations, steep rocky slopes, and a turquoise lake on its southwestern side.
The mountain drew climbers from around the world, especially from the 1930s onwards when expeditions explored the Cordillera Blanca. These early climbing attempts made it a known destination for high mountain adventures.
Quechua communities live in the areas below the mountain and work the land there. They use farming methods adapted to the high altitude.
The route to the mountain starts at the Pitec trailhead near Huaraz and involves a steep, challenging hike. Visitors should prepare for thin air and plan early starts to ensure safe conditions.
The mountain has specific microclimates that support rare plants found only in this section of the Cordillera Blanca. These species have adapted to the extreme conditions of high altitude and exist nowhere else nearby.
