Pucaranra, Mountain peak in Cordillera Blanca, Peru.
Pucaranra is a peak in the Cordillera Blanca that rises to 6,147 meters, featuring steep glacial slopes throughout. The west face is covered year-round in ice, creating a dominant and heavily glaciated appearance.
The summit was first reached in 1948 by a Swiss expedition ascending via the southwest ridge. This ascent marked an important moment in the region's climbing history.
The name comes from Quechua words describing the color of the rock. Local people use this designation, which reflects their deep connection to the mountain landscape.
Visitors need a permit from Huascaran National Park and should allow time for acclimatization. A base camp at around 4,600 meters is necessary to adjust to the thin air.
The mountain sits right on the border between two provinces and has a prominence of about 2,900 meters. This geographic position makes it a striking reference point in the mountain landscape.
