Pucaranra, Mountain peak in Cordillera Blanca, Peru.
Pucaranra reaches an elevation of 6,147 meters in the Andes mountains, featuring steep glacial slopes and a dominant west face covered in permanent ice.
The first successful ascent of Pucaranra occurred on April 7, 1948, when four Swiss mountaineers reached the summit through the southwest spur route.
The mountain's name originates from Quechua language elements 'puka' and 'ranra', reflecting the indigenous peoples' observation of the red stone characteristics.
Climbers accessing Pucaranra must obtain permits from Huascaran National Park authorities and establish a base camp at 4,600 meters for proper acclimatization.
The mountain marks the natural border between Carhuaz and Huaraz provinces, with a prominence of 2,903 meters above the surrounding landscape.
