Finiq, Administrative division in southern Albania
Finiq is an administrative division in southern Albania that spans across the area between the Ionian Sea and the Greek border in Vlorë County. The municipal seat is based in Dërmish village and incorporates several former communes including Aliko, Dhivër, Livadhja, and Mesopotam.
The area was known in ancient times as Phoinice and served as an important political center for the Chaonian tribe. Written records document the settlement's significance from the 15th century onward.
The area uses both Greek and Albanian in official documents, reflecting the strong presence of the Greek population in this region. This dual-language tradition remains visible in how the community manages its daily affairs.
The area is located in a geographically diverse zone between coast and mountains with varying access depending on which villages you visit. Visitors should keep in mind that the rural structure means facilities are spread across several small settlements.
In the 16th century the settlement developed into one of the largest in the region with around 350 households, significantly outgrowing neighboring towns. This period of growth shows how important trade routes were due to the location between sea and inland areas.
