Spaç Prison, Former political prison in Orosh, Albania
The prison complex includes multiple buildings with concrete walls, guard towers, and isolation cells measuring just 1 by 1.5 meters.
The facility operated from 1968 to 1991 under the Communist regime, forcing inmates to work in copper mines under severe conditions.
The prison represents a period of political persecution in Albania, with numerous intellectuals and dissidents held within its walls.
The site stands two hours from Tirana airport, with guided tours available to explore the buildings and learn about their historical context.
In 2019, a digital reconstruction project made the prison accessible online, allowing virtual exploration of this national monument.
