Lezhë County, Administrative division in northern Albania
Lezhë County is an administrative region in northern Albania that stretches from the Adriatic coast to inland mountains and encompasses three municipalities. The area covers roughly 1,600 square kilometers, blending coastal zones with mountainous terrain.
The region was reorganized in 2000 as one of Albania's 12 administrative regions, replacing the previous system of 36 districts. This administrative reform fundamentally changed how local government was structured across the area.
The area maintains strong Catholic traditions that shape local celebrations and community gatherings throughout the year. These religious roots are woven into everyday Albanian life and influence how people in the region come together.
The main city of Lezhë sits on the major SH1 highway and is served by a railway line that connects well to other Albanian cities. Visitors can rely on developed infrastructure to explore the region and its municipalities.
The area includes the port of Shëngjin, one of the country's three largest ports, where the Mat and Drin rivers meet the Adriatic coast. This strategically important location connects inland trade with the Mediterranean region.
