Lake Ulza Nature Park, Protected nature park in Mat, Albania
Lake Ulza Nature Park is a large protected area with two artificial lakes, mountains, hills, and dense forests in the Mat region. The two lakes were created by dam construction and sit within varied landscapes where several small villages are also located.
The first lake was created in 1957 through dam construction on the Mati River and transformed the region's landscape. The second lake followed later, and together these two water bodies shaped how the area developed.
The villages here keep traditional crafts and local customs alive in their daily life and architecture. You can see these traditions reflected in how people build and decorate their homes.
You can hike on marked trails, fish, or use boats depending on the season and weather. Guided tours are available year-round and help you find the best routes and spots to explore.
The two lakes have different water levels and depths because they were created at different times and serve different functions. These differences create separate habitats that support different kinds of plants and wildlife in each lake.
