Shtamë Pass National Park, National park in northern Albania
Shtamë Pass National Park is a protected area in northern Albania covered by pine forests, mountain slopes, and small glacial lakes scattered across its valleys. The terrain spans 6,864 hectares (16,950 acres) with its highest summit, Maja e Liqenit, standing at 1,717 meters (5,633 feet).
The park was established as a protected area in 1996 by the Albanian government. Its protected status was expanded in 2022, marking an increase in conservation efforts for the region.
The spring called Kroi i Nenës Mbretëreshë attracts visitors who come to fill bottles with water that locals trust for its clean taste. This water source sits at the heart of how people connect the mountains to their daily lives.
The park offers several hiking routes with varying difficulty levels, from gentle paths to mountain peaks. Bring sturdy footwear and water since higher elevations can be cool and windy even in warm months.
The park serves as a refuge for bears, wolves, and foxes that roam across its different elevation zones. These wild animals have made the remote mountain terrain their home, away from populated areas.
