Zgërdhesh, Archaeological site in Krujë Municipality, Albania
Zgërdhesh is an archaeological site in Krujë Municipality that spreads across hillside terrain and contains prehistoric remains. The location shows remains of fortification walls, towers, and terraced structures from different periods.
Settlement began in the 7th century BC as an Illyrian community. The location flourished over subsequent centuries and was later abandoned, leaving behind traces from multiple occupation phases.
Excavations have uncovered statues and terracotta objects from the Illyrian period of settlement. These finds show that an established community with its own traditions and craft practices lived here.
The site is located near Halilaj village and connects with other historical locations in the area. Visitors should expect uneven terrain and exposed excavation areas.
The fortification walls clearly show two different building techniques from different time periods. Early layers used rough stones, while later generations stacked precisely shaped blocks on top of each other.
