Mount Tomorr

Mount Tomorr rises to 2415 meters and forms a mountain chain running between the Berat and Skrapar regions. The massif features steep slopes and eroded paths in the upper sections, making the summit difficult to reach.

During the Byzantine period, the mountain was known as Tmoros and served as a strategic location where local leaders joined forces with Skanderbeg against Ottoman forces in 1457. This alliance was part of broader resistance to Ottoman expansion in the region.

The mountain draws annual pilgrimages in late August, when both Bektashi Muslims and Christians visit the shrine of Abbas ibn Ali on its southern peak. These shared visits reflect how the place holds spiritual meaning for different faith communities.

Reaching the summit requires four-wheel-drive vehicles due to steep slopes and poor path conditions in the upper sections. Visitors should prepare for rough terrain and bring appropriate gear.

The mountain functions as one of Albania's largest water collection areas and hosts populations of brown bears, wolves, and various birds of prey. This wildlife makes the region significant for the country's natural diversity.
