The Port of Shëngjin sits on the Albanian Adriatic coast and serves both cargo and passenger transportation needs for the region. The facility includes anchoring areas with sufficient depths and loading equipment for handling freight operations.

After the 1990s, Albania gave priority to developing this port because of its favourable geographic position, aiming to serve the whole northern region; cargo throughput rose fivefold compared with the early 1990s. In 1999 the Institute of Transport Studies, under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, drafted a port master plan financed by the World Bank. Revised in 2005, it set three investment phases to 2000, 2010 and 2020.

The port takes its name from the town of Shëngjin, as noted in Albanian sources. Since the 1990s its cargo handling volume has grown fivefold compared with the first years of that decade, reflecting its role as the only port in northern Albania. The 1999 master plan, drafted by the Institute of Transport Studies under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and financed by the World Bank, guides the port's staged expansion.

The port is accessible on foot or by a short ride from town and has designated areas where visitors can watch vessels and port operations. Expect some operational noise and active shipping traffic, especially during daytime hours.

The port's UN/LOCODE is ALDRZ, a code assigned to Shëngjin as Albania's only harbour in the northern part of the country. Channel depths of 3.4 to 4.6 metres contrast with the anchorage, where 14 to 15.2 metres allow larger vessels to wait offshore.
