Lmbatavank, Cultural heritage monastery in Artik, Armenia.
The Saint Stepanos Church of Lmbatavank stands on a hillside near Artik, featuring a cross-domed design with rectangular wings and a horseshoe-shaped nave.
The monastery began its construction in the year 700, with subsequent restorations in the 10th century that focused on reinforcing the octagonal dome structure.
The monastery walls display XII-XIII century paintings and inscriptions that document donations from surrounding villages, including Tsitsk, Sarnaghbyur, and Yardik.
The religious complex sits 2 kilometers southwest of Artik town in the Shirak region, with clear paths leading to its elevated position.
Archaeological excavations in 1953 revealed ancient khachkar pedestals, graves from the VII-XIII centuries, and numerous metal artifacts around the monastery grounds.
