Surb Stepanos Church is an Armenian Apostolic church in Abovyan built from stone with traditional architectural features characteristic of Armenian design. The building displays intricate carved details and geometric patterns carved into its exterior walls.

The church was built between the 16th and 17th centuries. The bell tower was added in 1851 in the village of Elar, southeast of Abovyan, as recorded by Archbishop Mesrop Smbatyan. The church stands on a hill next to the village cemeteries and was renovated in 2001 and again from 2010, when it was reconsecrated on 28 November 2010 by Bishop Arakel Karamyan.

The church serves as a central place for religious services and community gatherings in the town. It remains an important location where locals come together for worship and celebrations.
