Statue of Hayk the Great, Bronze monument in Nor Nork district, Yerevan, Armenia

The statue of Hayk the Great is a hammered copper sculpture 3.5 meters tall, standing near Gai Avenue in Nor Nork's 2nd district. Sculptor Karlen Nurijanyan and engraver Gaspasar Gasparyan created it; it was first placed by the Moscow Cinema in 1970 and moved here in 1975.

According to traditional Armenian texts, the legendary patriarch defeated a powerful adversary in ancient times and established a dynasty. This episode is regarded in regional history as the beginning of a new era.

The monument shows the legendary founder who is venerated in Armenian tradition as the builder of the first settlement at Mount Ararat. This figure embodies the origin of Armenian identity and is deeply rooted in local memory and pride.

The statue stands in the 2nd microdistrict of Nor Nork, beside Gay Avenue, not in a park. It is a freestanding outdoor sculpture reachable on foot from the avenue; there is no entrance or opening time to plan around. Look for the 3.5 m hammered copper figure at street level.

The lion pillars at the base were deliberately shaped to represent symbols of former enemies. This visual representation of defeated kingdoms adds a narrative layer to the monument.
