Cathedral of Talin

The Cathedral of Talin is a medieval church in Armenia marked by a dodecagonal drum positioned over its central section. Two prayer rooms sit beside the apse and shape the building's overall layout.

Prince Nerseh Kamsarakan commissioned the construction of this religious complex in the seventh century. That period saw major architectural developments taking place across Armenia.

The apse holds remains of original frescoes showing portraits of the Apostles, reflecting early Christian artistic practices in Armenian religious buildings. These paintings offer a window into how believers decorated their sacred spaces centuries ago.

The building stands on the cemetery grounds of Talin. The Church of S. Astvatsatsin near the complex entrance can help you get your bearings when visiting the site.

The structure contains hidden passage entrances within the prayer rooms on the second floor. These passages once led toward the apse and may have served ritual or practical purposes that remain unclear today.
