Arteni, Mountain summit in Aragatsotn Province, Armenia

Mount Arteni rises to an elevation of 2,047 meters, featuring steep slopes covered in dark volcanic glass known as obsidian.

The mountain stands near ancient settlements from the Bronze Age, including Agarak, which served as a vital trade connection between Ayrarat and Shirak regions.

Local residents gather annually on April 24th to climb Mount Arteni and light fires at its peak to commemorate the Armenian Genocide.

The ascent of Mount Arteni requires no specialized climbing equipment, though hikers should prepare for several challenging sections along the route.

The mountain slopes display rare bluebells that grow only in this specific area of Armenia and select locations in neighboring Turkey.
