Buin Zoo, Animal conservation park in Buin, Chile.
Buin Zoo is an animal conservation facility in Buin, Chile, that covers several hectares with separate zones for mammals, birds, reptiles, and aquatic creatures. Each section features designed enclosures modeled after the natural habitats of the species living there.
The facility was founded with the aim of protecting threatened species and grew over the years into a center for species conservation in central Chile. Since then, it has expanded its program to rescue and care for endangered wildlife from the region.
The park takes its name from the town of Buin and serves school groups as a learning space for Chilean animal species. Families often visit on weekends, with many parents showing their children native creatures from the Andes and coastal regions.
The facility sits 32 kilometers (20 miles) south of Santiago along the Panamericana Sur highway and opens Tuesday through Friday from 09:30 to 17:30, with weekend hours from 09:00 to 18:00. Visitors should plan enough time to see all sections, as the grounds are spread out and walking paths between enclosures can cover several hundred meters.
The marine section includes underwater viewing panels where visitors can watch penguins swimming and diving. This perspective offers a direct look at the animals' behavior beneath the surface, which would not be visible from the shore.
