Yerba Loca Nature Sanctuary

The protected area spans 39,000 hectares in the Andes Mountains, featuring mountain peaks, glaciers, and the Yerba Loca creek with its characteristic reddish waters.

Archaeological discoveries from 8,000 BC include stone tools and ceremonial sites, indicating continuous human presence in the area through different civilizations.

The Plomo Mountain within the sanctuary held significant religious importance for the Inca civilization, leading to ceremonial offerings at its summit.

Visitors can access the sanctuary through marked trails, with activities including hiking, mountain climbing, and wildlife observation from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM daily.

The waters of Yerba Loca creek contain high concentrations of iron salts and sulfates, creating a natural phenomenon that turns the water red during summer months.
