Lo Barnechea, Commune in Santiago province, Chile
Lo Barnechea is a commune in Santiago province located to the northeast of the capital. The territory encompasses both rural and urban areas, with neighborhoods ranging from low-rise developments to single-family homes, bordering several neighboring municipalities.
The region was inhabited successively by Llolleo, Bato, Aconcagua, Promaucaes, and Inca peoples over centuries. In 1991, it became an independent municipality when it separated from Las Condes.
The area is home to residents across different neighborhoods, each with its own feel. Wealthier families tend to settle in La Dehesa and Los Trapenses, while the town center and Población La Ermita house people from various income levels.
The municipality provides key services including driver's license registration and civil registry operations through its administrative offices. It helps to have a sense of direction when visiting, as different neighborhoods are spread out across the area.
The area sits at a high elevation where ancient inhabitants named it based on the frequent landslides that occurred in the hilly terrain. This geographical hazard left its mark on what people called this place.
