Iglesia de Los Dominicos, Santiago de Chile, Catholic church in Las Condes, Santiago, Chile.
Iglesia de Los Dominicos is a Catholic church with two copper-domed towers located at the end of Apoquindo Avenue within Los Dominicos Park. The former convent building beside it was transformed into an artisan market starting in 1983.
The Dominican Order received land from the Apoquindo hacienda in 1803 and began construction of the church in 1809. During the 1891 Civil War, the building served as a shelter for people opposing the government of the time.
The name refers to the Dominican Order, which has maintained a presence here since the early 1800s. The church and surrounding area blend religious practice with everyday community life, hosting an artisan market that draws local visitors.
The site is located at Apoquindo Avenue 9085, at the end of a major street that makes it easy to find. Visitors can explore the artisan market housed in the former convent spaces, where local crafters display handmade goods.
The building appeared on the back of the 2000 Chilean peso banknote from 1997 to 2010, reflecting its importance to national identity. This long-term presence on currency shows how much the church was regarded as a symbol of the country.
