Las Condes, Financial district in Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile
Las Condes is a commune in Santiago province within the Chilean capital region, extending from the foothills of the Andes to the urban core. Streets often run parallel to the mountains and pass through residential areas, business quarters, and large shopping centers.
The founding as an independent commune took place at the start of the 20th century when the land was still mainly agricultural. Over the following decades, construction and migration turned the area into a densely populated district of the capital.
The name traces back to the Conde family who once lived in the area. In residential neighborhoods with wide streets and parks, the influence of European and North American lifestyles is easy to notice.
Most public transport runs along the main avenues, so visitors can easily move between neighborhoods. On weekdays, the business zones are busy in the mornings and afternoons, while residential streets remain quieter.
Several hiking trails start in the eastern parts and lead directly up into the Andes. On clear days, the mountain range is visible from almost any point in the area and serves locals as a natural reference for orientation.
