Cachiche is a small settlement located a short distance from Ica, situated among sand dunes and palm groves in the arid coastal region. The village centers on a carved wooden monument made from huarango wood that references historical healing traditions.
The settlement began during the 1600s when women pursued by religious authorities left Lima and established themselves in the Ica valley. They built a community that persisted through the centuries that followed.
The village earned its name from women who were believed to possess special abilities and lived here seeking refuge. This reputation continues to shape how locals and visitors view the place today.
Visiting is best done as part of a guided experience, since the location is remote and access is not always clearly marked. Bring plenty of water and sun protection, as the area is very dry with intense sun exposure.
A palm tree in the village center supposedly altered its shape following a prophecy made by Julia Hernández about future disasters in the region. This tree remains a living reminder of local legends and beliefs for those who visit.
