Chimboya

Chimboya stands at 5,489 meters in elevation within the La Raya mountain range, featuring mineral deposits of sphalerite, pyrite, and quartz throughout its structure.

The mountain has remained a constant presence in the region since pre-Columbian times, marking territorial boundaries between the Cusco Department and Puno Region.

Local indigenous communities maintain strong connections to the mountain through traditional ceremonies and agricultural practices adapted to high-altitude environments.

Travelers need to allow several days for altitude acclimatization before attempting any climbs, as the elevation presents significant physical challenges.

The northeast position from La Raya Pass creates natural conditions where snow accumulates differently on each face of the mountain throughout seasonal changes.
