Paruro Province

Paruro Province extends across 1,984 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, bordered by the Rio Paruro and neighboring provinces of the Cusco Region.

The province contains archaeological remains from pre-Inca civilizations, including Paqariq Tampu, which local traditions identify as the origin site of Inca Empire founders.

Indigenous communities of Quechua descent constitute the majority of inhabitants, with ninety-two percent of residents speaking Quechua as their primary language.

The provincial capital, situated at an elevation of 3,057 meters, connects to Cusco city through a road network requiring two and a half hours of travel.

The territory includes commemorative arches constructed under Simon Bolivar's direction to mark military victories against Spanish forces during independence campaigns.
