BAP Abtao, Museum submarine in Lima, Peru
The BAP Abtao submarine extends 80 meters in length and contains six torpedo tubes along with a deck gun for naval operations.
Built by Electric Boat company in 1953, this vessel served in the Peruvian Navy until 1999 before its transformation into a museum in 2004.
The submarine received its name from a significant battle during the Chincha Islands War, replacing its original designation BAP Tiburon.
Located in central Callao district, the museum submarine opens to visitors who can explore the control room, torpedo sections, and living quarters.
The vessel participated in the rescue mission of BAP Pacocha submarine crew members following a collision with a fishing boat in 1988.
