Rodríguez de Mendoza Province encompasses twelve districts across 2,359 square kilometers of land in southeastern Amazonas, bordering San Martin Department and Chachapoyas Province.
The province received its official establishment through Law 7626 on October 31, 1932, during the presidency of Luis Miguel Sánchez Cerro.
The province carries the name of Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza, an influential Hispanic-Peruvian priest and educator from the Chachapoyas region.
The province sits at 1,295 meters above sea level, experiencing temperatures between 12°C and 30°C, with heavy rainfall occurring from November through March.
The forests of Rodríguez de Mendoza Province contain populations of the marvelous spatuletail hummingbird, Loddigesia mirabilis, and Andean spectacled bears.
