Monumento al Sagrado Corazón

The Monumento al Sagrado Corazón is a religious monument perched atop Cerro del Carmen in Guayaquil, featuring a sculptured figure mounted on a concrete base. The structure rises prominently above the surrounding cityscape and is visible from many vantage points around Guayaquil.

The monument was built during the 1960s as an expression of religious devotion and received funding through an innovative approach. The sculpture itself arrived from Italy in 1970.

The monument represents a place where faith and community identity come together for many visitors from Ecuador. People come here to pray, reflect, or spend quiet moments with this expression of religious devotion.

Access to the monument involves climbing stairs that include several rest areas to help visitors during the ascent. Wearing comfortable shoes and bringing water is advisable, especially if you visit during warm weather.

The statue arrived in separate pieces from Italy in 1970 and had to be assembled on location at the summit. A special railway system was used to transport and position each piece up the hillside.
