Mare Harbour, Naval port in East Falkland, South Atlantic Ocean.
Mare Harbour is a natural port on the northern coast of Choiseul Sound in the southeastern corner of East Falkland, consisting of two distinct coves. The water depth allows large vessels to anchor safely and access supplies or repairs.
The harbor was considered as a possible landing site during the 1982 conflict when British military forces planned operations in the region. This coastal location made it strategically important during the war.
The port community maintains Falkland English traditions while operating as a vital connection point between local settlements and international maritime activities.
This location is difficult to access and requires either special permission or advance registration. The nearest regular connection is by bus to nearby Mount Pleasant.
The harbor is managed by only about 15 permanent residents who handle all operations and supply duties. This small community operates in one of the most remote and isolated places on earth.
