Government House, Official residence in Stanley, Falkland Islands.
Government House is the official residence of the Governor of the Falkland Islands, located on Ross Road in Stanley. The building has a stone core at its center and has grown over time through several additions, with gardens surrounding the property.
The building was designed under Governor Moody and completed in 1845, then became the first permanent home for Falkland Islands governors in 1859. That change marked a step toward more settled administration on the islands.
Government House serves as the official residence of the Governor of the Falkland Islands and is the setting for formal receptions and official ceremonies. From the street, visitors can notice the British flags and emblems on the facade, which reflect the islands' ties to the Crown.
The interior is not open to visitors, but the facade and gardens can be seen from Ross Road without entering the property. Walking along the street gives a clear view of the building from different angles.
The conservatory at Government House is home to one of the southernmost Black Hamburg grapevines in the world. The vine continues to grow and bear fruit despite the cold and wind that define this part of the South Atlantic.
