Omega Tower Trelew, Radio navigation tower in Trelew, Argentina.
Omega Tower Trelew was a radio mast facility near the city that served as a tall steel structure for long-wave radio transmission. The installation functioned with ground-insulated design and supported navigation signals across large maritime and aeronautical areas.
Built in 1976 by the United States Navy as part of an international navigation network, the tower operated for over two decades. It was demolished in June 1998 when technological improvements made the facility obsolete.
The tower represented advanced radio technology in South America, marking Trelew as a strategic point for global navigation capabilities.
The site was located in an area outside the city and was never open to public visits. Visitors today will find an empty landscape where the tower once stood, with no remaining structure to observe.
Standing at 366 meters, it was the tallest structure in South America at its peak. The 1998 demolition was one of the largest controlled demolitions ever performed and attracted engineers from around the world.
