Veinticinco de Mayo Partido, partido in Buenos Aires Province in Argentina
Veinticinco de Mayo Partido is an administrative district in Buenos Aires Province and one of 135 districts in the region. It encompasses several smaller towns and villages built around a central city with the same name, featuring flat terrain with lakes and agricultural land.
The district was founded in 1836 when military officer Juan Isidro Quesada built a small fort in a swampy area called Laguna Las Mulitas. The name changed several times and received its current name, Veinticinco de Mayo, in 1853.
The town is named after May 25th, a significant date in Argentine history. Residents gather in parks and squares, and local markets reflect everyday habits, while traditions remain visible during festivals and community celebrations where families come together.
The district features flat terrain surrounded by several lakes worth exploring. Most visitors walk through the streets to see the simple architecture and historic buildings, and experience the quiet pace best by strolling through neighborhoods and visiting local parks.
The district's shield features a mulita, a small armadillo-like creature that gave its name to the original swamp where the settlement began. This symbol remains unusual among Argentine administrative districts and recalls the natural history of the place.
