Azul Partido is an administrative division in Buenos Aires Province, stretching across a central area with numerous settlements and suburban zones throughout its territory. The region combines rural and urban characteristics, forming an important administrative area with various economic and social centers.
The area was founded in 1832 by Colonel Pedro Burgos, following orders from Buenos Aires Province Governor Juan Manuel de Rosas. This establishment was part of the province's territorial expansion and administrative organization during that period.
The name comes from the Mapuche word for blue water, inspired by purple borage flowers that once grew along the local stream. These flowers gave the area its distinctive identity among the surrounding regions of the province.

The Trappist Monastery of Our Lady of the Angels was established in 1961 as the first Cistercian monastery constructed in South America. This religious community draws visitors interested in monastic architecture and contemplative life.
