Monumento Nacional a la Memoria de las Víctimas del Holocausto Judío, Holocaust memorial monument in Plaza de la Shoa, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Monumento Nacional to the Memory of the Victims of the Jewish Holocaust is a 40-meter wall made of 114 concrete blocks located in Buenos Aires. Each block is imprinted with everyday objects that were contributed by family members and community participants.
The memorial was initiated in 1996 and completed in 2015 to honor six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. It also commemorates terrorist attacks on Jewish institutions in Argentina during 1992 and 1994.
The memorial displays everyday objects donated by community members, pressed into the concrete blocks. These personal items create a direct link between visitors and the stories of those who perished.
The monument is accessible 24 hours daily, with an information center available from Tuesday to Sunday. There is no admission charge, and the site requires no special access arrangements.
Each of the 114 blocks directly connects to victims of attacks on the Israeli Embassy and the AMIA center in Argentina. This weaves together global history and the local trauma experienced by the Argentine community in a deeply personal way.
