Casa Marcó del Pont, National historical monument in Flores, Argentina
Casa Marcó del Pont is a building in Italian style with a U-shaped layout located in Flores, Buenos Aires. A central courtyard is surrounded by paired columns with Doric capitals that define its exterior.
The Marcó del Pont siblings purchased the property in 1860 and made it their residence. The house gained importance later when it served as shelter during the yellow fever epidemic of 1871.
The house became a gathering place for people interested in Argentine coins and medals. You can see today how these collections were displayed throughout the rooms.
The building operates today as a cultural center offering exhibitions and events for visitors. The rooms are easy to navigate and feature good accessibility for all guests.
The building was transformed into a temporary hospital during the 1880 Revolution. Afterwards it became the art studio of painter Ventura Marcó del Pont starting in 1913.
