Taller Rancagua, Metro maintenance workshop in Comuna 15, Argentina.
Taller Rancagua is an underground maintenance facility beneath Parque Los Andes with ten tracks for servicing trains. The workshop handles repairs and upkeep for Metro Line B vehicles operating in the Buenos Aires transit system.
Construction began in 1930 when builders found human remains beneath the site. The discovery revealed that an earlier cemetery called Chacarita had once occupied the ground where the facility was being built.
The workshop maintains its original name from the park designation, representing a connection between the facility and local neighborhood heritage.
The facility is located between Dorrego and Federico Lacroze stations and can hold up to 110 train cars for maintenance. Since it is an underground depot, visitors should expect to descend and be prepared for the subterranean environment.
The excavation work uncovered hidden remains from an earlier era beneath the park. This accidental discovery turned the construction site into an unexpected window into the area's past.
