Basílica de San Nicolás de Bari, Buenos Aires

Basílica de San Nicolás de Bari, Buenos Aires, Minor basilica in San Nicolás district, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Basílica de San Nicolás de Bari is a minor basilica in the San Nicolás neighborhood with two matching towers and French Academic style architecture completed in 1935. Its interior features a central nave flanked by side chapels decorated with mosaic work and religious artwork.

The original church was founded in 1733 and stood at the Corrientes and Carlos Pellegrini intersection until it was torn down in 1931. This current building was constructed as a replacement on Santa Fe Avenue and completed in 1935.

The entrance hall shows touches of French design mixed with local religious art, reflecting how the city blended European styles with its own identity during the 1930s.

The building sits in the heart of downtown on Santa Fe Avenue in the San Nicolás district and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors can enter freely to view the architecture and artwork in a calm setting.

The bells in the towers came from the original 1733 church and still ring today. These preserved bells create a direct link between the current building and the church that stood there long ago.
