Buenos Aires Cathedral, Neoclassical Catholic cathedral at Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires, Argentina
The Metropolitan Cathedral features twelve grand columns on its facade, resembling a Greek temple, with five interior naves and a 41-meter-high vault.
The cathedral's construction began in 1605 and underwent seven rebuildings until its completion in the mid-nineteenth century, incorporating different architectural elements.
The cathedral houses the mausoleum of General Jose de San Martin, containing marble sculptures representing Argentina, Chile, and Peru, the nations he helped liberate.
The cathedral welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 19:00 and Saturday to Sunday from 9:00 to 19:30 with guided tours available.
The cathedral contains a German Walcker organ from 1871 with more than 3,500 pipes and displays the Christ of Footballers, donated by Argentine players.
