La Equitativa del Plata, Art Deco building in Downtown Buenos Aires, Argentina.
La Equitativa del Plata is an eight-story building with geometric patterns, cylindrical forms, and decorative rings that culminate in a distinctive dome topped with a drum base. The facade displays characteristic Art Deco features with strong vertical and horizontal lines that give the structure modern elegance.
The building was completed in 1929 and served as the headquarters for the La Equitativa del Plata insurance company during Argentina's growth period. Its completion coincided with a time of significant economic expansion in Buenos Aires when such representative structures reflected confidence in financial enterprise.
Architect Alejandro Virasoro incorporated Art Deco elements in response to the architectural shifts following World War I's austere construction period.
The building is located at Avenida Roque Sáenz Peña 550 at a central intersection with Calle Florida in Buenos Aires's financial district. From this position you can view the complete structure with its distinctive dome from street level and photograph it easily.
The dome of this structure forms part of a sequence of architectural crowns at the intersection of Diagonal Norte and Florida Street. This cluster of distinctive rooflines creates an iconic skyline that defines the character of this city quarter.
