Casa Escasany, Gothic Revival building in Monserrat, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Casa Escasany is a building at the intersection of Rivadavia and Peru streets with vertical lines and ornate details across its facade. The Gothic Revival style shapes the street corner with its distinctive outlines and decorative features.
The building was constructed in 1944 as headquarters for the Escasany jewelry company, then Argentina's largest jeweler. It served this purpose until 1978, when the company relocated.
The Westminster Chimes clock marked daily time for Buenos Aires residents and became a familiar sound in the neighborhood. This acoustic feature made the building a recognizable landmark in the city.
The building now houses offices and contains a restaurant at ground level. The facade is clearly visible from the street and easy to access.
The building once displayed multiple clocks on its exterior that showed times from different world cities through a mechanical system. This network of timepieces made it a special attraction for passersby.
