Palacio Vera

Palacio Vera is a five-story building on Avenue de Mayo featuring curved balconies, ornate iron railings, and red granite detailing on its ground floor windows. The facade displays Art Nouveau characteristics with decorative ironwork and rounded forms that give the structure a refined appearance.

Austrian architect Arturo Prins designed this building for rancher Eustoquio Diaz Velez, completing it in 1910 during Argentina's Centennial celebration. The completion date coincided with a period of rapid growth and cultural flourishing in Buenos Aires.

The ground floor hosts El Túnel bookstore, a space devoted to rare editions and manuscripts connected to Argentina's literary past. Book collectors and enthusiasts come here to explore works that document the country's intellectual life.

A rectangular stained glass skylight illuminates the interior marble staircase, which features travertine balustrades and intricate wooden ornaments. This hidden architectural element is often overlooked despite being one of the building's finest details.
