Biblioteca del Poder Legislativo de Uruguay

The Biblioteca del Poder Legislativo is a legislative library in the Legislative Palace that holds over 250,000 books, 700,000 newspapers, and 150,000 magazines. The collection serves both parliament members and the public through on-site consultation and digital access.

The library emerged in 1929 from the unification of two separate chamber libraries, following a proposal approved in 1923 to merge resources. This consolidation brought together historical materials and created a single institution for legislators and researchers.

The central hall displays Italian craftsmanship through detailed marquetry and stained glass, filling the space with color and light. These artistic elements shape how visitors experience the building and make it a place where legislative work meets artistic beauty.
