Biblioteca del Poder Legislativo de Uruguay

The Biblioteca del Poder Legislativo houses over 250,000 books, 700,000 newspapers, and 150,000 magazines in its extensive collection within the Legislative Palace.

The library emerged from the unification of two separate chamber libraries in 1929, following a proposal approved in 1923 to merge resources and services.

The central hall displays Italian craftsmanship through detailed marquetry and stained glass work, including a replica of the Venus de Milo statue.

Located in the Legislative Palace, the library provides access to both parliament members and the public, offering consultation services and digital resources.

The institution maintains 5 million digital images and 1,333 microfilm rolls, documenting the legislative and political history of Uruguay.
